I wish he made an account but yeah, Bizon makes some good points. I'm really not a fan of the whole Alien thing in Fallout for the same reasons he just pointed out. Sure, a little cameo or nod to the Zetans is nice, but making them a central plot point to the server is a bit eh and worrysome. I mean we are currently sitting in frontier territory between two of the largest armies on the West coast who are currently at war with one another. Somewhere out there is that asshole in power armor from the last server who is still looking for that Geck. Others have mentioned that APACHE could still be out and about. The fact that we hear that Rangers are "chasing ghosts" in Baja implies that something is afoot in the region that is a big enough deal that NCR has to send in their elite troops for it.
Also let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I've been on plenty of servers where we use guns, and there's always, ALWAYS somebody who waltzes in and starts telling me about how bullets work and penetration and armor condition and all that shit. The fact is that at the end of the day we operate a server within a game, where the focus is on roleplay and no so much on combat. But, in order to make the combat elements we do have enjoyable and relatively difficult, we have to provide some balance. This often comes at the sacrifice of some realism, but as Bizon pointed out we have to work to ensure that what we do is grounded in that realism.
If we're going to be doing Wild Wasteland shit, it needs to be small, like an Easter Egg. I'd say that the extent of wackiness should be stuff you would find in FNV's Old World Blues DLC. An example of this would be Merp's recurring mammoth thing, or how I did one event on the last server where a raider with a .22 SMG and bulletproof helmet started screaming "LMG Mounted and Loaded" and unloaded 240 rounds at a group of wasters.
